A listening practice guided by Sean Luyk on the topic of vocal production in literary audio recordings. Drawing on the work of renowned ethnomusicologist, folklorist, and song-collector Alan Lomax (1915-2002), participants were asked to listen to vocal production in literary audio performances through the lens of Lomax’s Cantometrics, a taxonomy of 37 criteria Lomax developed for the study of traditional vocal music. In this session, Sean experimented with terminologies and tools used to describe vocal music and applied them to literary audio.
